About me

Meet Pippa

My love of Pilates began in 2010 when I first started attending classes. My career in body work and strong belief in the unity of body and mind for health and wellbeing began much earlier.

As a child I loved swimming, ballet and gymnastics and although I never became professional in any of these areas, they encouraged me to pursue a Physiotherapy career. In 1995 I completed a BSc (Hons) in Physiotherapy from Kings College London University. I then worked as a Physiotherapist for the following 25 years gaining valuable experience with people recovering from injury and surgery as well as those affected by stroke and long-term neurological conditions. More later I specialized in working with children with neurological developmental disorders and then in mental health care for children and adults. In both these areas I became service leads. I loved my Physiotherapy career, especially seeing patients improve in confidence and ability, and in this work, I increasingly noted the link between mental and physical well-being.

In 2009 I studied at Bergen University in Norway, attending a year’s Physiotherapy course in Basic Body Awareness therapy (BBAT). BBAT is a specialist Physiotherapy treatment used in Scandinavia to help individuals struggling with chronic pain, chronic fatigue, depression and anxiety and those recovering from trauma and abuse. I found this training inspiring and when I returned to the UK, I sought to find a similar modality that would be accessible for the public in the UK, I found Pilates.

I have loved Pilates ever since, valuing the space, calmness and clarity it gives me to connect to myself through body and mind, as well as the improvement it has made to my posture, core strength, flexibility and confidence.

In 2012 I completed my Pilates teacher training with Body Control Pilates (BCP), a leading training provider based in London with a worldwide reputation for excellence in the field. I continue to attend regular training with them to ensure I can bring the best to my clients.

Since qualifying as a Pilates teacher, I worked till summer 2025 at a private studio in Sheffield teaching weekly small group classes and building up a committed and enthusiastic clientele (many have stayed with me for more than 10 years). I also provided 1:1 sessions for clients wanting to work on specific goals or just preferring a 1:1 environment. Many of my clients sought me out over the years due to my physiotherapy experience, seeking my Physiotherapy knowledge to integrate into their Pilates to help them re-habilitate from surgery, injury or illness. Some individual clients have come for a few individual sessions, others have attended individual sessions weekly for years and continue to. I value each of my clients and the work we have done together. The Sheffield studio I worked in closed in July 2025 and I, at the same time moved to Whitby. Many of my clients from Sheffield have continued with me online which I am so glad about. I find working online allows me to continue to give good corrections to clients I already know well.

Now I am opening my own Studio doors in Whitby in April 2026.

Just to note I have also worked as a specialist Pilates teacher with the Parkinsons society in Sheffield and with South Yorkshire Eating Disorders Service.

Please get in touch if you would like to learn more about this new studio and arrange a session or join a class, I look forward to hearing from you!

I have been extremely fortunate in having been taught Pilates by Pippa for more years than I care to remember. Quite simply she is the best teacher you could ever wish for. She is an excellent practitioner in every way: the care, knowledge and experience of working with the human body and mind are things she shares  readily with her clients, as she strives to maximize the benefits, we all feel as her students. Her eye for detail, personal attention and constant good humor is always present I hope to continue learning from her for years.

I’ve been attending Pippa’s classes for over 10 years. She is an excellent teacher, demonstrating the exercises and explaining them carefully. Knowing she has been a physiotherapist is extremely reassuring, as I know her teaching is science based.

Pippa is a brilliant Pilates teacher, who has a very detailed understanding of how the body works, and an amazing ability to give individual corrections, adaptations and clear instructions. I’ve been going to Pippa’s classes for years, and I miss them on the weeks when I am unable to. Pippa’s classes have really helped my posture and allowed me to understand where my muscle imbalances are, this is so useful in the gym and helps me future-proof my body.

I’ve been doing Pilates classes with Pippa for about a year now and have also been seeing her for regular 1:1 sessions, and I am amazed by the benefits I feel.

Pippa’s ability to see how the body is working and to correct movement patterns is remarkable and unique in my experience. When I started, I had chronic back issues but by strengthening my areas of weakness and understanding my own body I have been able to exercise without pain again and am moving far more freely in ever day life. I wish I had started Pilates years ago!

I really enjoy my weekly Pilates session, and the benefits that last beyond the class. It is definitely one of the most positive and purposeful activities of my week. Pippa is an expert teacher, giving positive encouragement and precise advice. Perhaps best of all she really challenges you to think about your posture, flexibility, and fitness during the class, but also in your daily life.

Pippa is a first-rate instructor (and a very nice person)! It seems like she knows every single muscle and bone in the body and in a class of a number of people she will always spot anything that is not quite as it should be and give individual advice to help remedy or correct. She does this in a very good, positive and encouraging way, meaning that over time you become aware of your own body and what needs to be tweaked, thereby improving your ability.

I went to Pippa with chronic back pain, really the result of 12 years of mobility issues which were a consequence of a 5-month hospital stay. Pippa has worked patiently and diligently with me to such an extent that I can say my life is utterly transformed. My back problems are a thing of the past, my mobility, strength, balance and proprioception are massively improved and continue to get better. I am also more confident and more psychologically and spatially aware as a result of practice and discussions with Pippa. She is a sensitive, knowledgeable and inspirational teacher.

Pippa teaches Pilates with expertise and kindness. She has an extensive knowledge of anatomy and uses this to explain in simple detail how an exercise works a part of the body and how this can contribute to daily function.

She is kind and friendly and seems to be genuinely interested in her clients.
